Recording externally managed medications in Jump

How to log medications a patient is on without prescribing them yourself, so they still show up in alerts and on the record.

Why this matters for safe prescribing

Private GPs often see patients who are already taking medication managed by someone else, such as their NHS GP or another specialist. Jump lets you record these medications properly, so your prescribing alerts stay accurate and complete even for drugs you don't manage.

How to add an externally managed medication

Search for the medication as you normally would and select it. Instead of prescribing it yourself, choose the option to mark it as externally managed. From there, you can add details of who manages the medication, for example the patient's regular NHS GP.

Once you've entered those details, the medication is stored on the patient's record along with who is responsible for it.

Where it shows up afterwards

Once added, the medication appears in your prescribing alerts, so you get the full picture when checking for interactions or contraindications. It also sits in a dedicated section within the patient's medication record specifically for externally managed medications, making it easy to see and manage them separately from the medications you prescribe yourself.
