Self-pay billing

Self-pay billing describes a private healthcare business model where the patient pays directly for their care, as opposed to billing an insurer or the NHS, often at the point of booking or immediately after a consultation.

Because self-pay patients are also consumers, practices offering it typically need consumer-grade payment experiences, such as taking payment at booking or via card on file, alongside the clinical workflow behind it.
