Clinical register

A clinical register is a list of patients who share a coded diagnosis or condition, such as everyone with a diabetes diagnosis, generated from the record rather than maintained by hand.

Registers are what makes care gaps and population-level questions possible, such as how many patients on a register are overdue for a particular review. A register can only maintain itself automatically if the underlying diagnoses are coded consistently in the first place.
