Working with Episodes

An episode is a unit of work in the Inbox. It tracks a clinical workflow from start to finish - for example, reviewing a lab result, responding to a patient message, or following up after an appointment.

Episode Header

When you select an episode, the detail panel shows a header with key fields you can change directly:

  • Next Action - set to Practice, Patient, or No action needed
  • Assigned To - assign to a team member or a team
  • Priority - set to Low, Medium, High, or Urgent
  • Lifecycle - shows the current status of the episode

All of these can be changed inline using the dropdowns in the header.

Assignment

Episodes can be assigned to individual users or teams:

  • Click the Assigned To dropdown to choose a user or team
  • Select Unassigned to remove an assignment
  • Some episodes have locked assignment, meaning automation will not override a manually set assignment

Conversation and Journey Tabs

Each episode has two tabs:

  • Conversation - shows the merged thread of messages, notes, and events related to this episode
  • Journey - shows the full timeline of events and status changes

Closing an Episode

When work on an episode is complete:

  1. Click the Close episode button in the top-right of the detail panel
  2. Optionally add a closing note to record why it was closed
  3. Click Close to confirm

Closing an episode sets the status to closed and the next action to No action needed.

Reopening an Episode

If a closed episode needs further attention:

  1. Click Reopen episode
  2. Provide a reason for reopening
  3. The episode returns to open status with next action set to Practice

Due Dates

Episodes can have due dates. Overdue episodes are highlighted with a visual indicator so they stand out in the list.

Tip: Use the keyboard shortcut E to close an episode with a note, or Shift+E to close it instantly without a dialog.
