A task that takes several steps can hold those steps as sub-tasks, so the work stays as one thing in your list instead of several unrelated tasks.
Open a task and add a sub-task using the same controls you use on the task itself - assignee, due date, status and category all behave the same way.
Sub-tasks stop one level down: a sub-task cannot have sub-tasks of its own. That is deliberate, and it is what keeps a long list readable.
A sub-task opens like any other object you can click, so you can work on one directly without going via its parent.
Snoozing hides a task until a date you choose. Use it when there is nothing you can do yet - you are waiting on a result, a letter or a colleague.
Snoozing does not change the due date. The task is still measured against when it was actually due, so a snoozed task cannot quietly become "on time" by being pushed along. When the snooze ends the task comes back with its original due date, which is usually the honest picture of how long something has been waiting.
The snooze is recorded on the task's timeline alongside every other edit, so anyone looking later can see it was deliberate and who did it.
A task linked to a patient can show that patient's record in a rail down the right-hand side of the task editor.
This is for the common case where you cannot answer a task without checking something in the record - a recent result, a medication, the last consultation. The rail means you can look without leaving the task and losing your place, and what you select in it stays put as you work.
Every task keeps a timeline of what has happened to it: who created it, who it moved to, when it was snoozed, and every other edit. It updates as you make changes rather than waiting for a reload.
These are part of the new Tasks workspace, currently a Jump Beta feature. If your practice has it switched on, the New tasks toggle sits in the header bar of the Tasks page, and in Preferences → Jump Beta. It is yours to switch on - it affects only you, and you can switch back at any time.
