A refund in Jump is a credit note against a paid invoice, plus a choice of where the money goes. You can refund all of a payment or part of it.
Issue a refund
- Open the paid invoice: from Billing → Invoices, or from the patient's record.
- Under the invoice's actions, choose Issue refund. The Credit / refund drawer opens.
- Enter the Amount to credit. It starts at the most you can credit, shown underneath as Max creditable. Lower it for a partial refund.
- Choose a Reason (Duplicate invoice, Raised in error, Order changed, Service not satisfactory, or No reason given) and, optionally, a Memo, which is shown on the credit note.
- Choose where the money goes:
- Refund onto the original payment method: Stripe returns the money to the card that paid the invoice.
- Refund directly: for cash, bank transfer or a card machine. Jump records the refund, and the practice moves the money itself.
- Store payment as credit on account: the money stays on the patient's Stripe customer profile and comes off their future invoices. Nothing is paid out.
- Confirm.
An option that can't be used for this invoice is shown greyed, with the reason. For example, a payment taken outside Stripe can't be refunded onto a card.
What you'll see afterwards
The invoice shows what happened, so staff can tell where the money went: refunded to the card, refunded directly, or held as credit. A fully refunded invoice no longer offers Issue refund, because there's nothing left to return. Its receipt can still be downloaded or emailed.
If the drawer says Nothing was collected on this invoice, there's no money to return. Use Issue credit note or Void invoice instead.
Tip: An AI app connected to Jump can't issue refunds. It will point you to this article.
