How to Review and Finalise a Consultation

The Review step is the final check before your consultation becomes a permanent part of the patient's clinical record. Once finalised, the consultation is immutable — it cannot be deleted, only amended.

Moving to Review

When you've finished documenting your clinical findings, click Review in the consultation wizard. Before proceeding, Jump checks that the essential consultation details (date, time, and medium) are complete. If anything is missing, you'll be prompted to fill it in.

The Consultation Preview

Consultation review

The Review step shows a full preview of your consultation exactly as it will appear once finalised. This includes:

  • Consultation metadata (date, time, type, medium, setting, clinician)
  • Each problem with its episode type and clinical notes
  • Linked medications, observations, referrals, and other clinical data
  • Any linked appointment details
  • Linked documents

Take a moment to read through the preview and check everything is correct.

Validation

Jump runs automatic validation before you can finalise. There are two levels:

Errors (must be fixed before finalising):

  • A problem is missing a SNOMED code or episode type
  • An observation is missing its code
  • A linked medication or referral is missing required data
  • A social history panel is missing required fields

Warnings (you can proceed, but should review):

  • A problem has no clinical notes
  • An observation is missing a date or time
  • A procedure is missing a performance date

Validation messages link directly to the relevant section so you can quickly fix any issues.

Finalising

Once you're satisfied with the preview:

  1. Click Finalise
  2. Jump creates the permanent consultation record along with all linked clinical data
  3. The Success step confirms: "The consultation has been finalized and saved"

From the Success step you can:

  • View the patient's consultation history
  • Start another consultation
  • Return to the dashboard

Amending a Finalised Consultation

If you need to correct something after finalising, you can amend a consultation. Amendments:

  • Create a full audit trail showing what changed, who changed it, and why
  • Preserve the original record — nothing is overwritten
  • Require an amendment reason for medico-legal compliance

To amend, open the consultation from the patient's clinical record and select the amend option.

Tips

  • Always review the preview carefully — once finalised, the consultation is a permanent clinical record
  • If you're not ready to finalise, you can click Back to return to the Clinical Record step and continue editing
  • Your draft is preserved until you finalise — you can safely close the browser and come back later
  • The consultation template (if used) is captured as a snapshot at finalisation for medico-legal purposes
