How to Review and Finalise a Consultation
The Review step lets you check the consultation before creating an immutable clinical record.
Consultation Preview
The preview shows all consultation data:
- Metadata - date, time, medium, setting, responsible clinician
- Problems with episode types and clinical notes
- Linked items - medications, observations, referrals, investigations, documents, invoices
- Linked appointment details (if applicable)
Validation
Before you can finalise, the system checks for issues:
Errors (blocking)
These must be fixed before finalising:
- Missing SNOMED codes on problems
- Missing episode types
- Missing observation codes or required data
- Incomplete medication or referral records
- Missing required social history fields
Error messages link directly to the relevant section so you can fix them quickly.
Warnings (non-blocking)
These are highlighted but do not prevent finalisation:
- A problem with no clinical notes recorded
- An observation missing a date or time
- A procedure missing a performance date
Finalising
Click Finalise to complete the consultation. This creates an immutable clinical record. Once finalised, the consultation cannot be edited directly, only amended (see the article on amending consultations).
Success Page
After finalisation, you can:
- View consultation history - see the completed record
- Start another consultation - begin a new one for the same patient
- Return to dashboard
Tip: Review the validation section carefully. Errors block finalisation for clinical safety reasons. Fix them before proceeding.
