Viewing Consultation History

Last updated: 2 September 2026

The consultation history shows all completed consultations for a patient, grouped chronologically.

How to Get There

  • Patient record > Clinical Record > Consultations
  • Patient sidebar > Consultation History tab

Consultation List

Consultations are grouped by year and month. Each consultation card shows:

  • Date and time
  • Medium icon (face-to-face, telephone, video, or administration)
  • Clinician name
  • Problems discussed, each with an episode type badge
  • Linked data counts - icons showing how many documents, medications, referrals, investigations, and invoices are linked
  • Observation summary - key vital signs recorded during the consultation

Viewing a Consultation

Click a consultation card to expand it and see the full clinical record:

  • Problem-specific clinical notes
  • Linked documents and letters
  • Social history panels
  • Medications, procedures, observations, allergies, immunisations, and referrals
  • Lab orders and invoices
  • Medication administration summaries

Date Filtering

Use the date navigator to jump to a specific year or month. This is useful for patients with long consultation histories.

Draft Banner

If the patient has an open draft consultation, a banner appears at the top of the history view with a Continue button to resume editing.

The patient sidebar also shows recent consultations for quick reference without navigating to the full history view.

Tip: Use the linked data icons on consultation cards to quickly see which consultations involved prescribing, referrals, or lab orders without opening each one.

Which Date Is Which

Consultations are ordered by when the note was written, not by when the appointment took place. A note written today about an appointment last month therefore appears at the top of the list, where you would look for your most recent work.

So that the two dates are never confused, each consultation card:

  • Leads with the date and time the note was written. This is the date the list is ordered by.
  • Shows the appointment's own date and time next, labelled Appointment:.
  • Labels the appointment's reference number Appointment ref: — an identifier, not a date.

When a consultation is written up on the same day it took place — the great majority of notes — the card shows a single unlabelled date and time, as before. The labels appear only when the two dates genuinely differ.

Tip: If you are looking for a consultation and cannot find it near the appointment date, check the top of the list — a back-dated write-up sorts by the day it was written.
