Ordering Lab Tests

Lab test ordering lets you create a test request for a patient, select tests from a catalogue, and generate a printable request form with a QR code.

How to Get There

  • Patient sidebar - click Order Test (flask icon)
  • During a consultation - use the lab order option in the patient sidebar
  • Lab Requests page - go to Reporting > Pathology > Lab Requests and click New Lab Order

Provider Selection

If your organisation has multiple lab providers connected (e.g. TDL and Salient Bio), you will be asked to select a provider. If only one provider is connected, it is selected automatically.

See the TDL and Salient Bio articles in Integrations & Apps for how to connect lab providers.

Ordering via TDL

  4. Account to - select "Patient" or "Doctor / Practice" for billing
  5. Phone/Fax - toggle if you want results called through
  6. Select tests - search the test catalogue and select 1 to 10 tests
    • Tests show the canonical name, specimen type, and any requirements (fasting, grey-top tube)
  7. Clinical details - optional notes for the lab (max 35 characters)
  8. Sample info - date and time of sample collection
  9. Click Create Order

Ordering via Salient Bio

  1. Select a test profile from the available profiles
  2. Enter the barcode from the specimen tube
  3. Optionally set the sample date (defaults to today)
  4. Click Create Order

Printing the Request Form

After creating an order, a print dialog appears:

  • Request form - an A4 form with patient details, tests ordered, and a QR code. The lab scans this QR code to receive the order.
  • Specimen labels - printable barcode labels for specimen tubes

Click Print to send to your printer.

Order Number

Each order receives a unique order number (e.g. ORD-12345) for tracking purposes.

Tip: You can reprint a request form later from the order detail sidebar in Lab Requests.
